What is N.U.A.N.C.E Michigan?

N.U.A.N.C.E Michigan was formed by Jeff Parness, a concerned resident of Scio Township, on June 6, 2026. It stands for “Neighbors United Against Noxious Consumers Energy.” It is a community based organization made up of concerned neighbors and business owners in Lima Township, Scio Township, Ann Arbor, Chelsea, and Dexter who intend to fight and defeat Consumer Energy’s potentially planned 1414 Megawatt gas powered power plant on Lima Center Road near Jackson Road in between Ann Arbor and Chelsea.

 

This power plant could potentially have significant negative health impacts on people living around and downwind of the proposed plant by generating secondary pollution and particulate matter from ground level ozone that can potentially increase the risks of asthma, lung disease, and heart disease among our most vulnerable neighbors including children and seniors. Beyond the health impacts on people, the potential power plant could impact agriculture, the water table and Huron River Watershed, land values, and our beautiful way of life.

 

Our intention is to fight this with respect for our neighbors, accurate information, and every potential ally to defeat Consumer Energy on multiple fronts including environmental, legal, economic, and public opinion. Our hope is that Consumers Energy does the right thing and locates their new plant on an existing plant facility they own in other areas of the state or relocate the potential site to an area that will not impact the health of our neighbors across the region.
